The Historium Coffee Shop 南洋茶室 is a charming local restaurant nestled in the heart of Taman Cheng Utama, Melaka, that delivers an authentic taste of Malaysian Nyonya and traditional kopitiam cuisine. This cozy eatery invites you to immerse yourself in a culinary journey where fragrant spices, soulful flavors, and comforting dishes are skillfully crafted to honor classic Southern Malaysian heritage.
The crowning glory here is undoubtedly the Nasi Lemak selection — a quintessential Malaysian staple. Whether it’s the Nasi Lemak With Curry Chicken 咖喱鸡椰浆饭, tender pieces bathed in a luscious curry that’s gently spiced without overwhelming heat, or the Nasi Lemak With Otak Otak 乌达椰浆饭, where the smoky aroma of banana leaf-grilled fish cakes perfectly complements the creamy coconut rice, each bite is a harmonious dance of textures and flavors. The special crispy curried fried chicken in the Nasi Lemak With Fried Chicken 炸鸡椰浆饭 is an irresistible treat, combining crunch and spice with the indulgent softness of the rice.
Beyond nasi lemak, The Historium also serves up a comforting variety of mee soups, such as the fragrant Claypot Yee Mee 砂煲伊面 and the delicately flavored Ginger Wine Mee Suah 姜酒面线. These dishes are a warm embrace on a cool day, rich with broth that’s both soothing and packed with depth. The Sichuan Fish Slice Rice Noodle, with its mildly spicy and tangy broth, adds a vibrant twist for those seeking to excite their palate further.
The beverage menu deserves a special mention too, especially the aromatic iced kopi, praised by patrons for its balance of strength and smoothness, creating an energizing yet comforting drink. Additionally, the iconic Milo Dinosaur 恐龙美露 provides a playful burst of chocolaty goodness layered atop a chilled malt drink, embodying the local flavors that resonate so deeply with customers.
The dining atmosphere is unpretentious yet inviting, with soft Chinese melodies setting a soothing background that enhances your experience without overpowering conversation. Reviewers highlight the attentive and warm hospitality, making you feel genuinely welcome and ensuring that every meal is served with care. The casual layout is perfect for family brunches or a relaxed meal with friends, offering a genuine kopitiam vibe that’s both nostalgic and fresh.
While there may be a modest number of online reviews, visitors are pleasantly surprised by the quality and authenticity of food and service, which speak volumes beyond any digital rating. One guest shared delight over the wok hei in the fried rice and another loved the fiery sambal accompanying the fried bee hoon — both pointing to a dedication to robust, lively flavors that keep patrons returning.
For anyone seeking an unpretentious yet deeply satisfying introduction to Melaka’s local tastes, The Historium Coffee Shop 南洋茶室 delivers a heartwarming experience. It’s a place where each dish and sip tells a story, inviting you to savor not just the food but the essence of Malaysian kopitiam culture with every visit.

I was initially puzzled by the low Google reviews for this Kopitiam, but I decided to give it a try for brunch with my family. The iced kopi was excellent, with a rich and aromatic flavor. The fried rice had a satisfying wok hei and a well-balanced taste. The Nasi Lemak with Curry Chicken wasn’t too spicy and paired well with the rice, making for a pleasant dish. The claypot Yee Mee was fairly average, nothing extraordinary. Overall, it’s a comfortable, air-conditioned spot for dining with family and friends. It was much better than the reviews suggested. We enjoyed our brunch here!

It's a nice cafe with a fine variety of breakfast and meal items. The food is great and served with care. Chrysanthemum iced tea is something you want to try out. Hospitality is great, and servers are very attentive to the customers. The ambience is nice with soothing Chinese songs playing in the background. Gave a nice positive vibe. Nice sitting arrangements. The vegetarian items are not there. A couple of items can be added to the menu if possible. The payment can be done by QR, cash, or card. Parking is available nearby.
